Tires: Tire Noise, goodyear wrangler hp, snow traction

Question
I have had my 05 Jeep Liberty Limited a few weeks 650 miles so far and The tires are very noisy they are Goodyear Wrangler HP 17" which came stock on the vehicle. The Chysler Service Manager took a test drive and ruled out bearing noise and admitted that the tires where somewhat noisy but said I should expect this with this tire because of the aggressive tread.I dont drive off road just local and some highway and they are driving me nuts. They dont look like what I would call an aggressive tread..Is this normal,do I have any recourse or am I getting the brush off Many Thanks

Answer
First, you did buy a vehicle that has the look and the feel and the capability of an off road vehicle.  That should mean that the vehicle is going to have some compromises in the tire area (as well as some other compromises) - in this case it means greater mud and snow traction, decreased ride comfort, increased noise, and decreased wear life.

There are a number of things that might be done:

1)  The dealer would have to be convinced to exchange the tires.  This is not very likely to happen as the tires on your vehicle are now used and he is not going to receive any reimbursement for tires that are performing exactly they were they were designed to perform.

2)  You could try to convince a tire dealer to do an exchange.  Same situation.

3)  Make the chaneover yourself - either now or later.

I'm afraid that when you buy a vehicle, you should expect it to have compromises.  I'm sure there will be other things about the vehicle that will also not be 100% to your liking, but that's just the way it is.
