Tires: Tire Repair, unrepairable, tire store

Question
I had a tire go flat on me and put Fix-a-Flat in it to get me to the tire store.  The hole was in the middle of the tread.  The tech said the flat could not be repaired because I had used Fix-a-Flat.  They did not even take the tire off the rim.  Why is the tire unrepairable after using this product?

Answer
John,

I suspect there is some other reason.  Let me list some possibilities:

1)  They didn't want to mess around with a rim that had "that stuff" stuck to it.

2)  The tire already had a previous repair and doing a second repair is not a good idea - some shops won't do it at all.

3)  There were signs on the outside that the tire had been run underinflated, making the repair too high a risk.

4)  You may have said something that made them think this is not a good idea - who knows what that might have been.

Hope this helps.
