Tires: wheels, aluminum wheel, aluminum wheels

Question
on my old car there are aluminum wheels the lugnuts are not tapered, but clylindrical in shape, screwing onto the lugstud (tempered steel)and fitting snugly through the aluminum wheel... the lugnuts were 2 inches long...before i tried to remove them. :)  they all (20) broke off flush with the wheels (all 4). the corrosion is the only thing keeping the wheels on the  1/2 inch 1/2 lugnuted studs...the lugnuts were chrome and the wheels aluminum. what can i use the dissolve the corrosion thus releasing my wheels?

Answer
Hi John,

I have seen quite a few of those while installing new tires on wheels. I would suggest using antiseize on the studs and inside the lugnuts but don't add to much because it's really thick and can get it at any parts store and that should help you a whole lot..Goodluck
