Tires: Tire Repair, passenger car tire, chevy corvette

Question
Barry:

I have a 2001 Chevy Corvette (24,000 miles) with nearly new Goodyear run flat tires.  About 5,000 miles ago I replaced all four tires with the exact same tires as the OEM equipment the Goodyear run flats.  Last week I picked up a nail in the right front tire, a small puncture located on the tread face right in-between the treads.  The nail is still in and it leaks very very slowly. Can I have this repaired? Is patching from the inside OK? or should I replace the tire? If I should replace, do I need to replace both fronts at the same time?  Thanks and Regards.  Steve.

Answer
Steve,

Because the Run Flats are such peculiar animals, you'll need to ask Goodyear.  While you are talking to them, ask if the tire loses its speed rating.

But the one thing I am sure about is that EVERY passenger car tire that needs to be repaired must both seal from the inside (a patch)AND fill the injured area (a plug).  Most folks are using a patch with a stem or a mushroom patch.

Hope this helps.
