Used Cars: Range Rovers, power capabilities, luxury category

Question
I want to buy a used Range Rover.  Do these SUVs require an extraordinary amount of service?  Has the '04, '05 or '06 proven to be a better model year ?

Answer
Well to directly answer your question, they are costly to repair/maintain, the reliability is on par with most high end vehicles... not terrible, not great, purely average...
As for changes.. there arent many differences in the base model from 04-06, aside from the introduction of a supercharged model in 06 and a smaller sport model the same year (06 also boasted a ~20hp power increase in the base engine).

When you buy a range rover you are paying for the name and the hightech features you will probably never use... If you go off-road alot but want to do it in style (two things that shouldn't really go together) they are good vehicles if you have the cash.  Unfortunately most never see anything other than pavement, and are purely status symbols (like a corvette that no one drives hard).  If you don't fit into the "I want to go into the mountains to camp but wish to do it in comfort and luxury" category the range rover is perfect for you.  If like 95% of the other SUV buyers out there you just want one to have one (to drive to work or on trips), or because its manly, etc... unless you are wealthy enough to not care.. consider a luxury car... (if you really need luxury).. or if off-road is your goal plenty of trucks and other SUV's boast more power/capabilities for smaller price tags... Just some food for thought.  The way I see it, if you WANT one, and have the money, its not a bad choice, but it will hurt when it breaks down.
