Trucking: Info on Team Driving, company recruiters, trucking school

Question
Hi...my better half and I are to begin trucking school later this month. We are only interested in team driving, as company drivers for now...I am curious...I understand that one drives while the other "sleeps", but is there any down time, or is it a continuous run?  I am thinking one drives for 8-10, then the other drives for 8-10, but then what? Is this day after day?  We live in CA. We want to stay together, so aside from team driving, are there any other options
available?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Ginny, You ask so good questions.  Most of these should be covered in the Driving School.  I taught at one for 3 yrs.  Some of your questions will depend on the company.
Normally, team drivers are used on cross country trips, so the truck will make better time and deliver in the shortest amount of time. As you mentioned, one drives whild one sleeps.  You did not say if the school is operated by a trucking company or not.  Most company operated schools will employ the students themself after they finish.
Your driving time is limited to 11 hours driving with 10 hour breaks. The breaks can be either off duty or minimum 8 in sleeper and 2 off duty.  Some other options may be each drive locally with company that hires students.  This is not usually because the Insurance Companies require company to hire drivers with 1 to 3 years experience.
Some Company recruiters will most likely visit the training school and discuss employment with the students.  Good Luck
