I purchased a used 91 Ford Bronco. It is electronic shift 4wd. I can push the button and it will go into 4 wheel high, but it has a problem going into low range. I can set and push on the button numerous times and it may lock in once in a great while. And when it does lock in,it is just as time consumming to get it to unlock out of low range. But shifting back and forth from 2WD and 4 wheel high is no problem.

I don't know much about electric shift, which may be why I don't care much for them. I like the pull the lever and it's done type.
But the electronic part may not be the problem. It may be a wear problem in the transfer case, but it may also be just the difference in the circumference of the front and rear tires.
Shifting from foreward to reverse, and back a few times may overcome any difference, and allow it to shift, although that doesn't help in the mud, when you need it now.
