Truck Repair: PVC Valve replacement, pvc valve, vacuum conditions

Question
How does the PCV valve work and how do I change my PCV valve in my 98 Dodge Dakota V8?

Answer
Hi Jake,
The PCV valve is connected to the intake manifold by a pretty large hose.
If that hose was wide open, it would cause the engine to run poorly due to the great vacuum loss.
So the valve has a spring loaded valve inside that closes during low vacuum conditions, like wide open throttle, and opens during cruising or decellerating.
Kinda meters the flow.
It usually just pops into a grommet in one of the valve covers. You just pull it out of the grommet, and off the hose.
Make sure the hose isn't softened by oil, and doesn't suck flat. Also, make sure the hose, and the port it connects to are clean and unobstructed.
