Vintage Cars: buing a restored 280 sl, subframe bushings, seat pads

Question
Dear Ron
Living in Europa I am looking for a restored 1971 280 sl in the US. First screening is done via internet
Do you know of a short list of most important questions and documention before going to see the vehicle.
Currently looking at a car restored by motoringinvestments, san diego - seems pricy but well restored. Do you know of the reputation of this dealer?!

BR Tom

Answer
I believe they are a rupitable dealer, I have been to thier website and the cars look impressive.
Short list for any older mercedes is
1) Service history, more complete the better
2) Rust issues
3) Original paint or repaint, if repainted - what was used, # of coats, ect
4) Engine - original, rebuilt
5) Engine - compression readings
6) Subframe bushings - original or new
7) interior - original or refurbished?  Seat pads included, new foam, ect
8) AC/Heating - functional if present
9) Original parts used in refurbish or aftermarket?

I'd start there, if I can help any further let me know

happy motoring
Ron
