How to Find Engine Specs

Engine specifications detail the primary elements of a car motor. Engine specs provide you with the information necessary to gauge the engine's makeup, performance level, and suitability for your needs. Specs provide an owner with the technical description of the engine. This information is useful whether you are a prospective buyer or already an owner.

  • Go to a website that reports engine specs based on vehicle type, such as Motor Trend, Edmonds, Automotive.com or Kelley Blue Book. Enter the year, make, and model of the car. Review the specifications descriptions of your search. The engine specs should include the displacement volume in cubic centimeters and liters, the number of cylinders, and the bore, stroke and compression ratio. The specs will also include the power figures shown in horsepower and revolutions per minute.

  • Visit a new car dealership. Inspect the window sticker of any new vehicle. The sticker will list all important specs and facts related to the vehicle. It will include some or all of the engine specs.

  • Go to the official website of the auto company of your choosing. Complete car specs will be available for all models.
