When your motorcycle battery dies, you may not be in a position to call for help so it is important that you know a way to start it. Here is how to do it.
Make sure that the motorcycle is off. Position it close to the car or motorcycle with a good battery, or bring the jumper battery pack close. Be sure that the good car or motorcycle is off.
Determine which jumper cable is negative and which is positive. Most often, positive is red with a plus sign (+) and negative is black with a minus (-) sign.
Connect the positive clamp to the positive terminal of the good battery, and connect the other positive clamp to the terminal on the dead battery. This is if you are not using a jumper battery pack. If you are using a battery pack, simply connect the positive clamp to the positive bike terminal. Be sure not to touch any metal surfaces with the clamps. This may result in electric shock, sparks or other electric disasters.
Connect the negative clamp to the negative terminal of the good battery. Return to the bike and connect the negative terminal to any metal surface. This may result in a brief shower of sparks. However, this is nothing to worry about.
Turn on the car or motorcycle with the good battery. Now, turn on the motorcycle. If the battery has any power left in it, the motorcycle will start up. If it doesn't start, check the cables to ensure that everything is connected and try again. If this fails, the battery may not work at all.
Remove the cables, working in reverse order.
