How to Pay Uninspected Car Tickets

In some states and communities, vehicle owners can be ticketed for failing to have their vehicle inspected. How you go about paying tickets received for your vehicle, or a vehicle that is registered in your name, not having a current proof of inspection on it will depend on where you live, where the vehicle is registered and where you got the ticket. Some counties will allow you to pay inspection tickets online, while others may require proof of current inspection when you pay the ticket in person or by mail.

Things You'll Need

  • Ticket
  • Proof of inspection
  • Money order or debit card
  • Get your vehicle inspected. You will keep getting tickets if you do not, and some municipalities require that you prove your vehicle has been inspected when you pay your ticket or they will increase the fees. You will probably need your proof of inspection when you go to pay the ticket.

  • Contact the municipality that issued the ticket to learn specifically how to pay the ticket, including how much the ticket is for and what methods of payment are accepted. Also ask about any discounts for showing proof of current inspection. Some areas offer this option; others do not.

  • Prepare the ticket for payment. Some areas will let you go online and make your payment, but many others will require you to mail in or personally bring in your ticket, a money order or cashier's check for the amount of the ticket plus your proof of inspection. If your municipality requires proof of current inspection, get a photocopy to send in with your mailed payment.

  • Submit your payment and all required related information to the court from which you received your ticket.
