New PA Law Banning Texting While Driving Effective This Week

Pennsylvania drivers in Montgomery County and throughout the state should be aware of an important new law banning texting while driving that takes effect this week, on March 8, 2012. The PA governor passed a law to ban texting while driving statewide in December of last year.
The new PA law prohibits reading, writing or sending a text message while driving a motor vehicle. Under the new law, texting while driving is a primary offense across the entire Commonwealth of PA, meaning that a PA police officer may pull you over if you are observed texting while driving. The law imposes a $50 fine as a penalty for texting while driving.

Texting while driving has become a pressing issue in Pennsylvania and across the country recently. Distracted driving continues to be a huge concern, both for regular citizens and for lawmakers. Pennsylvania joins 34 states (and the District of Columbia) in banning texting while driving.
