Step 1: Transfer the title and complete the paperwork.

You are required to sign the title of the car to the new owner. You can find the procedure to follow at the Alabama Department of Revenue. A completed assignment at the back of the title is all you need, but there are some circumstances where more documents will be required. These documents include the bill of sale and federal odometer statement.

If the car being sold is inherited and is part of an estate not requiring a probate, you will transfer the title in your name. Complete the Affidavit for Assignment of the Title. All the relevant sections of the title certificate should be filled out by both the seller and buyer.

Step 2: Complete the bill of sale.

In Alabama, a bill of sale is a requirement during the transfer process. You are required to provide specific details in the bill of sale, such as the names of both parties involved, street name and date of the sale.
