How to Install Quarter Panel Glass

The glass quarter panel is the window in the rear of your vehicle's door. It can sometimes sustain damage due to accident or vandalism. If you don't want to take it to a repair shop, you can fix it yourself with some common tools. It usually takes about 30 minutes to complete the job and doing it yourself will save you some money.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Torque wrench
  • Socket wrench
  • Quarter panel glass
  • Open the rear door and remove the screws from the interior door paneling trim using the Phillips screwdriver.

  • Remove the interior quarter panel trim. The quarter panel will be attached to the door with clips. You should be able to unclip the trim using your hands. If not, use a flat-head screwdriver. This will expose the bolts holding the quarter panel glass in place. Remove them using the socket wrench. Set the bolts aside.

  • Remove the damaged quarter panel glass slowly.

  • Check to see if there are any remnants of broken glass and remove them.

  • Clean both sides of the new glass with water and paper towels or newspaper before installing it. Put the glass in place.

  • Reinstall the interior rear quarter panel bolts. Tighten them carefully to prevent damaging the glass.

  • Reattach the interior panel trim and reattach the clips. Insert the screws and tighten them up. Close the door and check to see that the window raises and lowers.
