How to Remove the Side View Mirror on a 2009 Honda Pilot

Maybe you got a little to close to that drive-thru window, or maybe someone drove a little too close to your Pilot in a parking lot – either way, now you have a broken mirror, and a nasty hole where that mirror used to be. In most cases, insurance companies won’t cover repairs like side-view mirrors, because the repair itself is generally cheaper than your deductible. Normally, would mean a trip to the body shop, but replacing either side-view mirror on your 2009 Honda Pilot is actually as simple as following a few easy steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Masking tape
  • Socket set
  • Ratchet
  • Wrap masking tape around the tip of a flat-head screwdriver – creating at least three layers of tape on top of the metal tip. There is a triangular panel opposite the mirror on the interior doorframe. Slide the screwdriver between the doorframe and the panel, then pry it outward to remove it.

  • Disconnect the mirror wiring harness from the door wiring harness. Remove the three nuts that secure the mirror to the door, using a 12 mm socket and ratchet. Save the nuts, and remove the mirror from the outside of the door.

  • Guide the wiring harness from a new mirror assembly through the hole in the door, then guide the mirror onto the door. Install the nuts and snug them. Connect the wiring harness to the door harness. Press fit the trim into place on the interior doorframe.
