How to Take Out Dents

Dents can be the result of a minor accident or a major accident to the vehicle. Only dents that have not been creased can be removed. If the dent has a crease, chances are that the metal around the dent will have to be replaced or repaired. Taking a dent out of metal can be done through various methods. One of the best methods for pulling a dent out is by using the suction cup method.

Things You'll Need

  • Bucket
  • Water
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Sponge
  • Soft cloth
  • Suction cup dent puller
  • Clean the dent and the surface around the dent with clean soapy water. Use a sponge to wipe down the dented area. Rinse the soapy water off with clean water.

  • Dry the water off the dented area with a soft cloth. Wet another soft cloth and apply a small amount of water around the base of the suction cup and around the dented area.

  • Ensure that the handle on the suction cup is pressed inward. Press the suction cup against the dented area. Turn the suction cup back and forth until the suction cup creates a small vacuum between the cup and the dented area. Pull the handle out to lock the suction cup to the dent.

  • Pull out on the suction cup with a generous amount of force. Unlock the handle of the suction cup and remove it from the dented area. The dent should be pulled out. If not, repeat the same process as outlined in the steps above until the dent is completely pulled out of the metal.
