How to Troubleshoot a Dodge Sliding Door

The latest Dodge minivans from Chrysler include a power sliding door for the rear seat passengers. The doors can be opened or closed with the buttons on the remote control transmitter that Chrysler calls an RKR transmitter, the overhead console, or the door switch. The doors can also be opened and closed manually. Some less vehicles don't have the power function. Problems with the Dodge sliding door can be rectified by following some troubleshooting steps.

  • Look for buttons adjacent to the door on the pillar with icons of a door and arrow markings to identify whether the Dodge has power or manual doors if you have difficulty identifying how to open the doors. Power doors will have the button and handles, and manual doors will have inside and outside handles only.

  • Open the door with the manual handle to identify whether the problem opening the door is with the power apparatus, or the door itself. Pull outwards on the exterior handle and the door should open smoothly. If the left door doesn't open, check the fuel filler cap is closed and try again. If the door opens, any issues can be with the power apparatus.

  • Press the RKR transmitter button a second time within five seconds to open the door. The door won't simply open with one button push. Press the button twice to close the door.

  • Press the switches on the door pillars once to open the door. Make sure that the master unlock button in the center console isn't activated because it will block the rear buttons' functions.
