How to Fix a 2001 F150 That Is Stuck in Park

However, there is a problem with the 2001 Ford F-150 which can cause the transmission to occasionally become stuck in park. Fortunately, there is a relatively easy way to get the truck out of park and into neutral, allowing you to drive the car to a certified repair shop.

  • Keys to truck
  • Insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the "lock" position. Apply the parking brake and remove the key.

  • Insert the key again and turn the ignition to the position labeled "off".

  • Put your foot firmly on the brake and shift the transmission to neutral.

  • Start the vehicle. Check the brake lights to see if they are working. If the transmission is locked in park it may indicate a problem with the brake lights. If they brake lights are not working it may not be legal to drive the truck on the road, so have it taken to a certified repair facility as soon as possible.
