How to Troubleshoot the Rear A/C on an Acura MDX

The rear A/C in the Acura MDX is separate from the front A/C system for the vehicle. When there is a problem with the rear A/C, but the rest of the A/C system is unaffected, there can only be a few reasons for this. Replacing the entire A/C system in the MDX is an extensive job. For this reason, you should do a simple troubleshooting procedure to determine what the problem is.

  • Open the fuse panel under the steering column by pulling down on the cover with your fingers.

  • Locate the fuse for the A/C system using the fuse diagram on the underside of the fuse-panel cover.

  • Pull the fuse for the A/C. If the metal strip inside the fuse is broken, replace the fuse with a new fuse of the same amperage.

  • Turn on the A/C for the front and rear in the MDX. Check to make sure that the vents are open and that air is allowed to flow into the cabin. If you hear the motor running for the front A/C, but the rear A/C is not running, the problem is most likely the rear A/C blower transistor. This part is located in the left-center panel on the main shifter console area. This item needs to be replaced by a professional mechanic.
