The ABS on the Chevrolet Corvette works like most anti-lock braking systems on other vehicles. As you press on the brake pedal, the Corvette's ABS sensors check for wheel lock up. If it is detected, the system automatically pumps the brakes for you to prevent the Corvette from skidding. Over time, these units may begin to malfunction as all electrical components do. Before replacing the ABS sensors, you should troubleshoot the problem first to make sure the ABS is indeed malfunctioning.
Open the fuse panel box under the steering column.
Pull the fuse for the ABS system with the fuse puller.
Inspect the fuse to make sure that it is not popped.
Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right.
Look behind the driver's side wheel. Check the ABS sensor and wiring for any visible damage. The sensor is located on the back of the wheel hub. You should be able to see the lead wires. If they are damaged in any way, the ABS unit needs to be replaced.
Turn the ignition to the "on" position. If the ABS light comes on and stays lit, the ABS system has failed. You will need to have the system checked by a professional mechanic.
