A check engine light on your 2000 Accord's instrument cluster may be a scary sight, and seeing code P1259 "VTEC System Malfunction (Bank 1)" when you scan the system may be downright terrifying. But don't judge a book by its cover, because this code is simply a reference to a system. The actual repair could be something as simple as a loose wire or rusty connector.
Code P1259 has a handful of possible causes. The best-case scenario is that the VTEC solenoid connector has come loose or is damaged. Also check out the wiring coming from the connector for breaks or splits in its sheathing, as these can create shorts in the circuit, leading to this code. The more advanced issues that require more mechanical knowledge include a failed VTEC solenoid, failed VTEC switch or a failed PCM.
