How to Put in an O2 Sensor on a 2000 Escalade

In 1999 General Motors introduced their first Cadillac SUV, the Escalade. It was available in 1999 and 2000, but did not return again until 2002. The Cadillac Escalade is the offspring of the ever popular Tahoe and Yukon siblings. The Escalade had a 5.7 liter V-8 engine and four-wheel drive as standard equipment. This engine was able to achieve decent fuel mileage at that time, but as various sensors would wear out the mileage could decrease.

Things You'll Need

  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Ratchet
  • Oxygen sensor socket
  • Torque wrench
  • Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface. Apply the parking brake. Turn the ignition key off. Lift the front of the vehicle. Place the jack stands under the frame and lower the vehicle.

  • Locate the four oxygen sensors in the exhaust system. There are two near the engine and two after the catalytic converters. Disconnect the electrical connector by lifting on the locking tab. Remove the sensor with the ratchet and oxygen sensor socket.

  • Apply a thin layer of anti-seize to the threads of the new sensor. This should be supplied with the sensor. Thread the sensor by hand. Torque the sensor to 30 foot-pounds with the torque wrench. Install the sensor connector until you feel it snap into place. Route the wiring away from the exhaust system. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
