How to Remove the '05 Mustang Headlight

When the Mustang debuted in 1964, Ford likely had no clue just how important this model would be to its livelihood. Throughout the years, the Mustang underwent some significant changes; some were good and some were not so good. The 2005 model year was another year for change in the Mustang, as it was completely redesigned to feature a more retro design while maintaining a modern appearance. One of the main factors of the retro style of the 2005 Mustang was its squarer headlights. Replacing the bulbs in these new-old headlights is a simple task that just about any owner can successfully complete.

Things You'll Need

  • No. H13 headlight bulb
  • Open the hood and look on the backside of the headlamp assembly to find the headlight bulb. Unplug the wiring harness connected to the bulb by pressing its unlocking button and pulling it from the rear of the bulb.

  • Rotate the bulb counterclockwise to unlock it and pull it from the headlamp assembly.

  • Hold a new No. H13 bulb by its plastic base – touching the glass bulb may cause premature bulb failure – and guide it into the headlamp assembly. Rotate the bulb clockwise to lock it into place.

  • Plug the wiring harness into the bulb.
