The Polaris Ranger is a small, golf cart type vehicle that is mainly used for hunting purposes. Like most vehicles, the Ranger has CV joints that allow the driver to control the wheels through the use of the steering wheel. These joints are covered by a CV boot to prevent any damage to them that can occur through dirt or mud. If the CV boot is damaged, it should be replaced immediately.
Use a jack to lift the Ranger. Remove the wheel nuts and washers with a wheel wrench. Remove the wheel on which you will be replacing the CV boot.
Remove the two bolts securing the brake caliper.
Remove the bolts from the hub assembly, and remove the hub to access the axle. Remove the cotter pin with a pair of pliers.
Disconnect the A-arm and ball joint with a tie rod fork.
Remove the clips from the axle shaft and pull it out. Use a towel to remove as much of the grease from the CV boot as you can.
Grip the snap ring from the center of the CV boot, and pull as hard as you can to remove the CV boot from the axle shaft. You may need to use a pair of pliers to help grip the boot by its clamps and remove it.
Apply grease to the new CV boot, and slide it onto the axle shaft. Reattach the snap ring.
Reconnect the A-arm and ball joint. Reattach the cotter pin.
Reattach the axle shaft with the clips. Reassemble the brake caliper. Reassemble the hub assembly and secure it by reattaching the bolts.
Reattach the wheel and remove the jack.
