How to Remove the PCM from a Commodore VY

The power train control module (PCM) of the Commodore VY series, which was manufactured by Holden from 2002 to 2004 in Australia, is the computer "brain" of the vehicle. Its powerful microprocessor is responsible for running the car's electronic functions, including emission control, the charging system, and various sensors that relay information to the PCM, like the anti-lock brake system. A bad PCM can negatively affect any of the Commodore's electrical functions.

Things You'll Need

  • Adjustable wrench
  • Use an adjustable wrench to remove the negative and positive battery cables on the Commodore.

  • Unplug the plastic wiring harness plugged into the back of the PCM.

  • With a wrench, loosen and remove the retaining bolts holding the PCM in place inside the engine compartment.

  • Lift the PCM up and out of the Commodore's engine compartment.
