How Do You Change the Turn Signal Light on a 2005 Chevy Uplander?

In 2005 Chevrolet introduced an all-new vehicle, known as the Uplander, which simply did not fit into a specific category. The Uplander had the functionality of a minivan and the look of an SUV-minivan hybrid. Per MSN Autos, Chevrolet classified the Uplander as a "crossover sport van in the mid-van segment." Below the SUV-like headlight assemblies are small, bumper mounted lenses that house the front turn signals. Minivan-like taillight assemblies house the rear turn signal lights. Replacing a turn signal light on the 2005 Uplander requires removing the headlight or taillight assembly, depending on the light you are replacing.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • Style 5702 bulb (front turn signal)
  • Clean, lint-free cloth
  • Torque wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Style 3057 bulb (rear turn signal)

Change the Front Turn Signal Light

  • Open the Uplander's hood. Rotate the headlight retainer pin -- the pin on the inner part of the headlight assembly -- toward the headlight and pull it upward and out of the headlight assembly.

  • Remove the outer retaining bolt, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the headlight assembly from the front of the Uplander.

  • Look behind the bumper, under where the headlight assembly was, and locate the rear of the turn signal assembly. Twist the turn signal socket counterclockwise to unlock it and pull the socket and turn signal bulb from the assembly.

  • Pull the burned-out bulb from the socket, using a slight wiggling motion. Press a new 5702 bulb into the socket, using a clean, lint-free cloth to prevent the oils from you hands from causing premature bulb failure.

  • Insert the socket and new bulb into the turn signal assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place.

  • Set the headlight assembly back onto the front of the Uplander. Tighten the headlight retaining bolt to 8 to 9 foot-pounds, using a torque wrench and a socket. Line the holes on the inner part of the headlight assembly up with the holes on the Uplander's bumper and guide the headlight retaining pin through the holes. Turn the headlight retaining pin away from the headlight assembly to lock it in place.

  • Close the Uplander's hood.

Change the Rear Turn Signal Light

  • Open the Uplander's rear hatch. Remove the two taillight retaining screws in the rear hatch jamb, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the taillight assembly from the rear of the vehicle.

  • Twist the turn signal socket -- the middle socket -- counterclockwise to unlock it and pull the socket and bulb from the taillight assembly.

  • Pull the bulb from the turn signal socket, using a slight wiggling motion. Press a new 3057 bulb into the turn signal socket, using a clean, lint-free cloth. Touching the glass with your bare hands may cause premature bulb failure.

  • Insert the turn signal socket and new bulb into the taillight assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place.

  • Line the holes on the rear of the taillight assembly up with the locating pins on the rear of the Uplander. Press the taillight assembly until it seats into place on the vehicle. Tighten the two taillight retaining screws, using a Phillips screwdriver. Close the Uplander's rear hatch.
