How to Change the Color of My Xterra's Dash Lights

The Nissan Xterra has several lights on its instrument cluster that are collectively referred to as dash lights. Changing the colors of the dash lights on your Xterra is a popular aftermarket customization option. If you wish to change the color of the dash lights on your Xterra, all you need to do is remove the old bulbs and install colored bulbs. It is a simple procedure that should only take 20 minutes to complete.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Colored 3157-type bulbs
  • Open the Xterra's hood and disconnect the battery with a socket wrench. Make sure to only remove the negative terminal.

  • Open the driver's side door and remove the two screws from underneath the dash panel above the instrument cluster with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull off the dash panel.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to uninstall the four screws on the instrument cluster. Pull the cluster out towards you.

  • Reach behind the cluster and remove all of the dash light bulbs by pulling them straight out. Replace them with the colored bulbs.

  • Reinstall the instrument cluster and reattach the four screws. Reattach the dash panel and its two screws. Reconnect the battery and close the hood of the Xterra.
