Jeep Commander Sunroof Removal

There are a number of things that can go wrong with your Jeep Commander sunroof. You may discover that it is leaking water into the vehicle and ruining your upholstery and carpeting, or maybe the glass is broken. Perhaps you want to replace it with a snazzy, tinted sunroof. No matter the need, removing a sunroof is an easy task to do and the procedure is pretty much the same no matter what the make or model of the car.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Lift the hood of your car and disconnect the negative battery cable if you have an electric sunroof.

  • Open the sunroof to the vent position by lifting it and snapping it in position.

  • Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to unscrew the clamps and hinges that connect the sunroof to your car. Use a screwdriver or needle-nose pliers to release the springs that fasten the sunroof liner to the roof.

  • Push the liner off with your hands to expose the adjustment screws. Remove the adjustment screws with the screwdriver.

  • Use both hands to hold the top of the sunroof glass. Carefully and gently lift the sunroof and place it on the top of the car. Do not try to take it down through the sunroof gap. If it's a panoramic sunroof, you may have to slide the glass forward to remove it from the tracks and then place it on the roof of the car.
