How to Repair the Power Antenna on a 1995 Toyota Camry

If your vehicle's power radio antenna does not rise when the radio is turned on, your reception may be affected. The antenna and antenna motor have to be removed and replaced as one unit. Additionally, the parts of the antenna and antenna motor cannot be serviced individually. However, most novice mechanics can fix an inoperable antenna by replacing the entire assembly. This task takes about an hour on a 1995 Toyota Camry.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench set
  • Pliers
  • Towel
  • Pull down the trim covering the driver's side of the trunk, revealing the power antenna motor and antenna.

  • Remove the two mounting bolts holding the power antenna motor to the body with a wrench.

  • Unplug the electrical connection attached to the power window antenna motor.

  • Place a towel around the antenna mount nut that holds the antenna in place to the body. Unscrew the nut with pliers, using the towel as protection against scratching the nut. Pull the assembly down to remove the antenna from the body and pull the assembly out of the trunk.

  • Guide the new antenna assembly against the body and guide the antenna up through the body.

  • Install the two mounting bolts to hold the power antenna motor against the body.

  • Place a towel around the antenna mount nut. Tighten the nut, using the towel as protection against scratching the nut.

  • Plug the electrical connection into the power window antenna.

  • Pull up the trim covering the side of the trunk.
