How to Change a Zafira Headlamp

The headlamps on the Opel Zafira, also referred to as the Vauxhall or Chevrolet Zafira, use two bulbs: an H7 bulb for its high-beam lights and an H3 bulb for its low-beam lights. As the headlamps are one of the most important aspects of your Zafira's safety, it is important to keep them functioning at all times. The process for changing the Zafira's headlamps differs depending on whether you're replacing the high-beam bulb or the low-beam bulb.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean gloves
  • Replacement bulbs

Low-Beam Bulbs

  • Turn off the Zafira's engine and turn the wheels as far inwards as they will go so that you can access the wheel-well covers. If you are replacing the left-hand side low-beam bulb, turn the wheels as far to the right as you can. If you are replacing the right-hand side low-beam bulb, turn the wheels as far to the left as you can.

  • Crawl underneath the vehicle on the side you will be replacing the low-beam bulb in order to access the wheel-well. The wheel-well is located directly around the tires. Release the two fasteners holding the wheel-well cover in place. Remove the cover.

  • Reach into the wheel well and remove the protective cover of the low-beam bulb. The low-beam bulb is contained by the smaller protective cover.

  • Rotate the bulb holder counter-clockwise to unlock it and pull it from the assembly.

  • Pull the bulb from the holder and use a clean cloth or paper towel to install the new bulb. Be sure to not touch the H7 bulb's glass surface.

  • Re-install the holder to the assembly by rotating it clockwise to secure it. Re-attach the wheel-well cover and its fasteners.

High-Beam Bulbs

  • Turn the Zafira's engine off and open the hood.

  • Remove the protective cover of the high-beam bulb from behind the headlamp assembly. The high-beam bulb is behind the larger protective cover.

  • Detach the electrical wiring plug from the back of the bulb. Remove the spring clip from the bulb retainer by pressing it inward, then swinging it downward.

  • Pull the bulb from the assembly and use a clean cloth or paper towel to install the new bulb.

  • Re-attach the spring clip and the electrical wiring plug. Re-attach the protective cover and close the hood.
