The Cooling Fans Won't Run in a Camry

If the cooling fan will not work in your Toyota Camry, then your engine will begin to overheat, which may cause serious damage. As with most car parts, fixing a small, inexpensive problem can prevent a large expensive problem, and this certainly is true of an engine cooling fan. If you are not comfortable repairing it yourself, you can take your car to a mechanic, although changing a cooling fan is not difficult and does not require a great deal of specialist knowledge.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Replacement cooling fan
  • Disconnect the car battery and wait for two minutes before beginning work. Disconnect the wiring of the cooling fan and the temperature switch. Remember which is which for reattachment purposes.

  • Use the wrench to unbolt the fan housing. Depending on your replacement parts, you may need to remove the fan housing completely, or simply remove the fan and retain the housing.

  • Reinsert the fan housing with the new cooling fan inside. Tighten all the bolts that you loosened. Reattach the wire to the cooling fan and the temperature switch.

  • Reconnect the battery and start your engine. Allow the engine to heat up. Check underneath the car for leaks, and see if the engine fan is working properly. If not, take your car to a mechanic, who will help you determine the cause of the problem.
