How to Reprogram an Acura TL

Acura manufactures luxury automobiles such as the TL, RSX and TSX. All Acuras come standard with upgrades such as leather seats and keyless entry systems. Keyless entry allows Acura drivers to open the trunk and lock and unlock the doors from a remote control. Acura drivers must reprogram their keyless entry remotes from time to time for a number of reasons. Sometimes changing the battery in your keyless entry remote deprograms the remote, and sometimes your keys just become faulty and need reprogramming. Fortunately, the process is simple.

  • Turn on your TL. Push either the lock or unlock button on your keyless entry remote no more than four seconds after turning on your TL.

  • Turn the key in the ignition to the "Lock" position and then turn it back on. You must complete each action within four seconds of completing the action before.

  • Repeat steps one and two twice more and then push the lock or unlock button on your remote. At this point the doors in your Acura TL will lock and unlock on their own, which is a signal that you've been successful in the reprogramming mode up to this point.

  • Push lock or unlock on your remote within 10 seconds of your door locks cycling. Repeat this step on each of the keyless entry remote controls you are programming.

  • Turn off your Acura TL and exit the vehicle.
