How to Replace the Throttle Position Sensor on a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder

The throttle position sensor is very important because without it, your 1997 Nissan Pathfinder would not go anywhere. The sensor measures the pressure you place on the gas pedal and opens the valve inside the throttle body accordingly. This is what revs your engine. When the sensor goes bad, you will notice it because you will push on the gas pedal and the engine will not rev.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Locate the black plastic sensor bolted to the left side of the Nissan's throttle body. The sensor has a wiring harness connected to the front of it and two screws holding it onto the throttle body. It is the only thing connected to the left side of the throttle body.

  • Disconnect the harness from the front of the wiring harness.

  • Remove the two screws that secure the throttle body sensor to the side of the throttle body with a screwdriver.

  • Pull the sensor straight out from the throttle body.

  • Place the new sensor onto the throttle body and secure it using the two screws and screwdriver.

  • Plug the wire harness into the front of the throttle position sensor.
