How to Remove a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Map Sensor

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor in the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee measures the manifold vacuum pressure as air is taken from the combustion chamber. The result is the PCM's ability to determine barometric pressure or to determine the vehicle's relation to being at sea level. This tells the PCM how to send fuel and air to the engine.

Things You'll Need

  • Towels
  • Socket set
  • Locate the MAP sensor on the front of the intake manifold. The sensor is made of black plastic, has two mounting bolts and a wiring harness connected to it. The housing is square.

  • Disconnect the wiring harness from the MAP sensor.

  • Clean the surface area around the MAP sensor with a shop towel. When you remove the MAP sensor, it leaves a hole in the intake manifold that dirt could get into.

  • Remove the two bolts that secure the MAP sensor to the manifold with a socket and ratchet.

  • Pull the MAP sensor out of the intake manifold. Make sure the O-ring seal comes out with the sensor.
