The Location of the ECM on a 1997 Nissan Pickup

The engine control module (ECM) on Nissan's 1997 pickup truck is located inside the vehicle's cabin. The ECM is the "computer" of the vehicle. The ECM controls the engine timing and spark and fuel delivery. Without it, your Nissan pickup truck would not start. When the computer fails, you must replace it or take it to a Nissan repair facility and have it "flashed" with new firmware. In order to accomplish either task, you must first locate it.

  • Open the passenger door and locate the kick panel on the right-hand side of the inner fender panel under the dash.

  • Remove the screws that secure the kick-panel to the inner fender panel using a flat-head screwdriver.

  • Pull the kick panel off the inner fender panel and look on the inner fender panel for a black and sliver box with a large wiring harness connected to it. This is the Nissan's ECM.
