Installation of the Toyota Camry Windshield Wiper Motor

Changing the wiper motor in a Toyota Camry can be rewarding and cost effective. The first reward is the satisfaction of a job well done. Working on your own car can produce a sense of accomplishment. The second reward is the cost savings. Today's repair shops often charge high prices to perform this type of service. Many people can change the wiper motor on a Toyota Camry if they are mechanically inclined.

Things You'll Need

  • Regular screw driver
  • Phillips head screw driver
  • Various size wrenches
  • Various size sockets
  • Open the hood and place the prop in the spot located. Make sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent shock during the removal process.

  • Find the old wiper motor located on the fire wall in the engine compartment area.

  • Remove the windshield shroud which covers the wiper arm linkage. This is done by removing the screws that hold it in place. This is located directly in front of the windshield.

  • Unbolt the wiper linkage attached to the wiper motor.

  • Unbolt the motor from the fire wall. This will free the motor from the car.

  • Take the old wiper motor with you to the parts store. Match up the new wiper motor with the one taken from your Camry. This will ensure that the motor will match and bolt up correctly.

  • Install the new wiper motor by bolting it on to the firewall.

  • Attach the wiper linkage to the wiper motor.

  • Reattach the windshield shroud to cover the wiper linkage.

  • Fasten the negative battery terminal back on the battery

  • Test the new motor to ensure the replacement was successful.
