How to Take Apart a Dashboard on a 2003 Chevy TrailBlazer

Removing the dashboard from your 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer takes a long time. There are many components, and you must unscrew many parts and take them apart in the correct order. However, the process is straightforward, requiring only a Phillips-head screwdriver. Be prepared for over two hours of work.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips-head screwdriver
  • Turn off the TrailBlazer's engine and remove the keys from the ignition.

  • Remove the two screws from the left of the cigarette lighter. Remove the two screws above the light gauges. Put these and all other screws in a safe place.

  • Remove the two screws below the steering wheel under the plastic cover. Pop the top of the steering wheel cover down and remove the two screws above the steering wheel.

  • Grab the right side of the recess that holds the cigarette lighter and pull it off the dash. The corner will pop out. Pull the dashboard off by tugging on the edges. Remove the plastic trim. At this point, all the electrical devices will be exposed.

  • Unplug the lamp controller, the rear wiper controller, the radio, and the AC unit.

  • Remove the dash piece by starting at the steering wheel and pulling gently. When you come to the steering wheel, lower the steering wheel as far as it can go in order to make the dashboard removal easier.
