How to Repair the Fuel Filter in a 1994 Chevrolet C1500

The Fuel filter in the 1994 Chevy Silverado C1500 is a small in-line filter that connects in-line with the fuel lines under the driver's side door, inside the frame rail. Although a fuel filter is not expensive, you may not always find yourself in a position to replace a clogged fuel filter. You could find yourself stranded with no way to get to a parts store. If this is the case, you can attempt to repair the fuel filter so you can get to a location where you can purchase a new one.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Socket set
  • Compressed air
  • Pry up on the two retaining clips that secure the fuel filter to the font and rear fuel line. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the clips upward.

  • Pull the front and rear fuel lines away from the filter.

  • Remove the bolt that secures the fuel filter to the frame rail using a socket set.

  • Blow compressed air through the filter until you get air out of the other end. The filter has an arrow on one end to show you which end faces the front of the truck. Make sure you blow the air into the filter so it flows in the direction of the arrow.

  • Secure the filter to the frame rail using the bolt, socket and ratchet. Make sure the arrow faces the front of the vehicle.

  • Slide the fuel lines onto both ends of the filter and push down on the retaining clips to seal the fuel line onto the filter.
