How to Replace the Front Seats on a Maxima

The Nissan Maxima is equipped with front bucket-type seats, with lumbar supports. The seats have electric adjusters, which allow you to move the seat forward and backward, up and down, and tilt forward and backward. As an optional feature, Nissan offers climate-controlled seats that heat up in the winter. The seats are securely bolted to the car's floorboard. If you want to replace a factory-issued seat with an aftermarket model, or if the seat malfunctions and has to be repaired, you must remove the seat from the vehicle. This should take about 30 minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket set
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Cloth
  • Torque wrench
  • Move the seat all the way forward.

  • Remove the plastic covers on the rear of the seat slides. Use the screwdriver covered by a rag to pry them up, if necessary.

  • Tilt the seat back to access the electrical connector. Lift the plastic tab on the connector and pull the two ends apart. Remove the seat from the car with the help of an assistant.

  • Place the new seat into the car with the help of an assistant. Attach the electrical connector. Keep in mind that if the seat is not a factory replacement or an aftermarket seat specifically designed for your Maxima, the electrical features might not function correctly.
