The Volkswagen Beetle has a recognizable shape with a unique design. The glove box in the Beetle is built directly into the passenger's trim panel. Damage to the glove box can eventually extend to the panel itself and over time the latching mechanism can wear out or break. If you need to replace the glove box, you'll need to replace the passenger's trim panel, as the two consist of one component.
Park the Volkswagen Beetle on a flat, level surface and set the parking brake.
Open the passenger door far enough that it stays open. Remove the screw covers located where the door touches the dashboard by pulling them off. Remove the screws underneath with a Phillips screwdriver.
Open the glove box. Unscrew the six screws around the glove box with a Phillips-head screwdriver. One screw is located to the left, three are above and two are below.
Remove the passenger-side trim panel and glove box. It will pop off with a firm tug. Move the panel carefully so the edges don't damage upholstery or paint.
Slide a new trim panel and glove box into the Beetle and fit it in place. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to tighten the screw to the left of the glove box first, to help seat the panel. If the other screws are put in first, the panel can shift so that this screw will miss and the panel will remain loose on that side.
Open the glove box. Install the remaining five screws around the glove box with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the screw covers off the right side of the panel, install the screws and replace the covers.
