How to Change the Headlamps on a Volvo XC70

The headlamps on your Volvo XC70 use two bulbs: a main beam HB3-type bulb and a dipped beam HB7-type bulb. One type bulb is for the high beams and the other is for the low beams. Replacing either bulb is a simple process that only requires a clean rag and a replacement bulb. The entire procedure can be completed in a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean rag
  • Replacement bulb

Dipped Beam Bulbs (H7)

  • Turn off all the exterior lights on your vehicle and turn off the ignition. Open the hood and put on the gloves.

  • Remove the headlamp cover by twisting it counterclockwise. Pull the electrical connector to remove it from the rear of the headlamp assembly.

  • Disconnect the spring clamp by pushing it to the right, then pushing it down so it disconnects.

  • Pull the bulb out and replace it with a new one. Use a clean rag to install the new bulb.

  • Press the clamp spring upwards and to the left to secure it. Reconnect the electrical connector and reattach the headlamp cover by twisting it clockwise. Close the hood.

Main Beam Bulbs (HB3)

  • Turn off all the exterior lights on your vehicle and turn off the ignition. Open the hood and put on the gloves.

  • Remove the headlamp cover by twisting it counterclockwise. Rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise and pull it out.

  • Remove the old bulb and replace it with a new one. Use a clean to rag for the installation of the new bulb.

  • Refit the bulb holder to the assembly and twist it clockwise to secure it. Reattach the headlamp cover and close the hood.
