How to Install a Throttle Position Sensor on an SRT-4 Neon

The throttle position sensor on an SRT-4 Neon sends voltage to the computer, indicating throttle angle. If you drive at a certain speed -- for example, highway driving, at a consistent speed of 60 MPH -- the throttle position sensor, over time, develops a "dead spot" where the sensor wears down. A worn out sensor causes poor idle, lack of power, problems with shifting and poor fuel economy, among other things, and should be replaced.

Things You'll Need

  • Set of sockets
  • Locate the throttle position sensor on the throttle body. Unplug the wiring harness connector by pulling the two side tabs out and pulling the connector off the throttle position sensor.

  • Unbolt the two retaining bolts. Gently pull the throttle position sensor off the throttle body.

  • Slide the new sensor onto the throttle body, then tighten the bolts firmly. Do no over tighten the bolts, as you could damage the sensor or the throttle body. Plug in the wiring harness connector.
