Because the grill of a Hyundai Sonata is plastic and built partly into the large, plastic cover that fits over the vehicle's bumper bar, it can be damaged easily during a minor parking lot mishap or fender bender. If your Sonata grill has been damaged, replacing it is a simple project that can be completed in under 30 minutes. Replacement grills can be purchased as original equipment or aftermarket reproductions. Reproductions will resemble the original grill but will lack the Hyundal factory emblem.
Locate the grill mounting screws. Set the parking brake and raise the hood of the Sonata. Immediately in front of the hood latch, where the grill mounts to the radiator core support, you will find six small screws. At the far edges of the grill there are two larger fasteners that hold the grill to the bumper cover.
Remove the larger fasteners and remove the grill. Use a 1/4-inch socket to loosen the fasteners and remove them. Once loose, pull the grill slightly forward and lift up. The grill has tangs that fit into slots in the bumper cover.
Install the new grill. Slide the grill tangs into the slots in the bumper cover. Firmly seat it, then push the grill back and allow the lip of the grill to slide over the metal core support. Replace the fasteners that you removed earlier.
