How to Stop a Gasoline Leak With Teflon Tape

Teflon tape is a cheap and effective way to seal fittings in gasoline lines. It is a safe remedy because Teflon tape is inert to gasoline. However, it is essential you wrap the Teflon tape counterclockwise around the fitting, so that you do not unwrap the tape when you screw the fitting back into place.

Things You'll Need

  • Box wrench
  • Lint-free rag
  • Unscrew the gasoline line fitting using a box wrench.

  • Clean all oil and gasoline from the fitting with a lint-free rag.

  • Wrap the threads of the fitting with at least three layers of Teflon tape. Wind the tape counterclockwise, which ensures that you won't unwind the Teflon tape when screwing the fitting back in.

  • Screw the fitting back in. Tighten with a wrench.
