How to Hide Car Scratches

Cars naturally pick up scratches from flying pebbles, sticks and other debris. Hiding these scratches helps prevent rust or further chipping on the body of your vehicle. By following a few steps, you can quickly remove and hide scratches, improving the car's appearance.

Things You'll Need

  • Dish soap
  • Old rag
  • Paper towels
  • Buffing compound
  • Buffing pad
  • Car wax
  • Matching touch up paint
  • Fine-tipped paint brush
  • Clean the scratch and the surrounding area. Use the dish soap mixed with water to clean the surface, scrubbing and removing dirt with an old rag.

  • Apply touch up paint to the scratches using a fine-tipped paint brush. Fill in the crack gently with a matching paint color and remove any excess from the surface using a paper towel.

  • Apply buffing compound to the painted surface once the paint is dry. Buff the surface until a nice consistent appearance is visible throughout the body of the car.

  • Apply wax and wax the exterior of the car. This will seal in the finished product and keep the surface free of any defects.
