How to Remove the Spoiler on the Civic Hatchback

Honda included a rear spoiler on many Civic hatchbacks to apply down force with acceleration. However, the spoiler on the Civic is as much for the car's appearance as it is for performance. If you want to change your Civic's appearance by removing the spoiler, or replacing it with another, you can do so with the help of a few common tools and an assistant.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Socket set
  • Open the hatchback on your Honda Civic.

  • Remove the screws that secure the inner plastic panel to the inside frame of the hatchback door. Use a screwdriver.

  • Locate the four nuts that secure the spoiler to the deck lid of the hatchback. They are located under the removed plastic panel.

  • Remove all four nuts with a socket and ratchet. Have a second person hold the spoiler in place while you remove it to prevent it from falling off the deck lid.
