How to Change a Tire on a Kia Rondo

Everyone hates to have a flat tire. It is dangerous for the vehicle occupants and the vehicle. This is no different for the Kia Rondo. The Kia Rondo can be damaged by driving with a flat tire, which can cause the vehicle to swerve dangerously. In addition to the safety concerns when changing a tire, many people do not know exactly what they need to do to in order to change a tire on a Kia Rondo. Luckily the Kia Rondo often comes with all of the supplies needed to handle this potentially dangerous situation safely.

Things You'll Need

  • Heavy brick
  • Car jack
  • Spare tire
  • Wrench
  • Pull the vehicle over to a safe area. Move the Kia Rondo into a parking lot or an empty road. If there is no easy to access parking lot or empty road near by, pull the car over as far out of traffic as possible to provide the best protection from other vehicles.

  • Remove the jack from the Kia Rondo and position the jack according to the instructions on the jack.

  • Block the wheels of the vehicle by placing the heavy brick under a tire of the vehicle. Begin to raise the vehicle with the jack, being sure not to lift the vehicle completely off the ground. The jack should be supporting the Kia Rondo, but the tire being replaced should still be in contact with the ground. This will make it easier to remove the nuts holding the tire on.

  • Remove the hubcap of the Kia Rondo tire that is need of replacing. These should simply snap off with little resistance. If difficulty is encountered while removing these, use the end of the wrench as a crowbar and pop the hubcap off. This will expose the nuts and bolts that hold the tire onto the vehicle.

  • Loosen the nuts to the damaged tire. This may be difficult as the nuts are often applied with professional equipment, rather than hand tightened. You may need to use force or your body weight to remove the nuts. Having the tire resting on the ground helps this process because the tire cannot turn with the force, and all of the pressure is placed on the nuts rather than wasted pressure turning the tire.

  • Raise the Kia Rondo higher, taking all pressure off the tire that is needing replaced. Once the vehicle is lifted, remove the nuts completely, allowing for the tire to be removed. Once the damaged tire is removed, replace it with a fresh or spare tire. The nuts can then be replaced, but not tightened at this point.

  • Lower the Kia Rondo back to the ground and tighten the nuts as much as possible. This should be done in a cross pattern. Do not tighten the bolts one side and then the other, or all in a row. This pattern could result in a tire that is off balance and prone to breaking the axle. A cross pattern means to tighten one and then tighten one that is a cross from the first one. This ensures a uniform tire setting.

  • Replace the jack and wrench in the Kia Rondo. The damaged tire can also be placed in the Rondo. If the tire is not seriously damaged, repairs can be made for a decent price. If the tire is unrepairable, a tire expert can dispose of the tire for a small fee or for free depending upon where you go.
