How Do I Enter a Radio Code on a 99 Acura RL?

Acura put premium sound systems in their 1999 vehicles, including the RLs. The system has an anti-theft feature in which the radio will stop working if it's removed from the vehicle. The radio also stops working if the RL's battery is disconnected and then reconnected. This anti-theft feature helps make the radio less desirable to steal. The radio requires that a specific access code be entered before it will start working again. If you no longer have the radio access code, you can obtain it by showing proof of vehicle ownership at an Acura dealership parts or service department or through Acura's code retrieval website.

  • Obtain the radio's five-digit access code from the RL Radio code card that came with the vehicle, from an Acura dealership or from Acura's code retrieval site, radio-navicode.acura.com.

  • Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "On" position. "Code" will appear in the frequency display.

  • Enter the code by pressing the corresponding numbers on the radio's channel preset buttons. The code is five digits, using the numbers 1 through 6, coinciding with channel preset buttons 1 through 6. The radio will begin working properly once the code has been entered correctly.
