How to Replace the Fog Lamp of a Mercedes E430

Fog lamps are essential for safe driving. They provide illumination designed to penetrate thick fog that can roll out onto your path when it is completely unexpected. If the lights aren't completely operational, you may face a dangerous situation in which you are forced to drive your Mercedes E430 through blinding foggy conditions. You should examine your fog lamps frequently to make sure they are functioning properly. Replacing them is fairly easy, and the only tool you'll need is a screwdriver.

Things You'll Need

  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Fog-lamp bracket
  • Prop open the hood of your Mercedes E430. Locate the fog light next to the headlight.

  • Find the opening hatch below the fog lamp and under the bumper. Twist the plastic tab with a flat-head screwdriver until the hatch opens. Push the hatch down to access the lamp.

  • Unhook the latch that holds the cover of the fog lamp down. Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the lamp.

  • Unscrew the three bolts that hold the bracket for the lamp in place. There are two bolts on the top and one on the bottom. Pull the lamp and bracket out to remove the entire assembly.

  • Place the new lamp in the hatch. Bolt the new bracket in place with the flat-head screwdriver. Twist a new bulb in and plug in the electrical connector.

  • Close the hood and test your fog lamps.
